THE ESTATES

The Marylebone Journal is jointly supported by The Howard de Walden Estate and The Portman Estate, Marylebone’s two historic estates. These two landlords, whose roots in the area reach back several centuries, own and manage a significant proportion of Marylebone’s buildings, but their role extends far beyond that.

As long-term stewards for the area, they have been instrumental in shaping its distinctive character. Both of them have worked hard to maintain Marylebone’s appealing balance of residential accommodation, offices, medical facilities, hotels, restaurants and shops. They have done much to curate the acclaimed retail areas of Marylebone Village and Portman Marylebone. They foster close ties with groups representing residents and local businesses, are heavily involved in environmental initiatives such as Wild West End and the Low Emission Neighbourhood, and are active in organising public events such as the Marylebone Summer Festival, Marylebone Christmas Lights and Portman Marylebone Summer Street Party.

As well as collaborating in their support of the Journal, they have also joined forces to create the Marylebone Food Festival and Marylebone Design District.
